The Bird’s Nest (National Stadium) is located at the northern end of Beijing’s central axis. It was the main stadium for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and has become one of Beijing’s new landmarks in recent years due to its high-end and majestic appearance and the many international competitions it has hosted.
Unique appearance
The exterior of the stadium is woven from steel branches in the shape of a bird’s nest. The undulating curved lines make it look like a living, breathing organism, and the shape has a strong visual impact. The original torch tower, which was placed on top of the Bird’s Nest, has now been moved to the Torch Plaza on the northeast side of the Bird’s Nest, where it can be seen from outside the stadium.
Internal highlights
The interior of the Bird’s Nest is quite spectacular with nearly 100,000 red seats packed tightly together. There are also some exhibitions related to the construction of the Bird’s Nest and Olympic-themed exhibitions. This is what you can see inside the Bird’s Nest with a 50 RMB admission ticket.
If you buy a 80 RMB ticket for the Bird’s Nest Sky Corridor (known as “Top Beauty”), in addition to the above, you can also take the elevator on the north side of the fifth floor of the Bird’s Nest to the top иC where the original Torch Tower of Auspicious Clouds was located. Through the steel mesh at your feet, you can see the vertical and horizontalsteel structure and the view inside the Bird’s Nest. The surrounding Linglong Tower and the Olympic Park Landscape Avenue offer a panoramic view; overlooking Beijing, on a clear day, you can even see the outline of Jingshan Park to the south.
If you buy a VIP ticket for 110 yuan, in addition to the content of the 50 yuan admission ticket and the Bird’s Nest sky corridor, you will also get access to the VIP area, the golden lobby, the golden passageway, and the magnificent yet dignified lounge. It can be said to be a collection of the “high and the mighty” in one.
Photo-taking tips
The Bird’s Nest is unique enough in appearance that most tourists don’t bother going inside. It’s still a great place to take photos. The square around the Bird’s Nest is illuminated by many landscape lights in the shape of the Bird’s Nest. With the “little bird’s nest” landscape lights in the foreground and the “big bird’s nest” National Stadium in the background, the resulting photos are quite interesting.
At night, the Bird’s Nest is lit up in red, and the adjacent Water Cube is lit up in blue (it changes colors). The contrast is very interesting, and the night view is beautiful. But don’t go too late, otherwise the lights will be turned off. There is an artificial river to the east of the Bird’s Nest. Find your favorite spot along the river and take a picture of the illuminated Bird’s Nest and its reflection in the water.
In addition to hosting sporting events, the Bird’s Nest also hosts cultural events such as concerts.
Inside the Bird’s Nest, there are souvenirs related to the Olympics and the Bird’s Nest itself for sale. There is a square between the Bird’s Nest and the Water Cube where long strings of kites (many small kites connected in a series) are sold, which is very unique and you can fly kites and have fun.In addition, the water and food in the scenic area are relatively expensive.
1. Reaching the top of the toweroverlook the interior of the Bird’s Nest, the surrounding Linglong Tower, the Olympic Park Landscape Avenue, and even overlook Beijing City.
2. At night, the red lights contrast with the blue Water Cube (National Aquatics Center), making it a great place to take night photos.
