The Capital Museum has seven floors and is divided into exhibition halls for basic and thematic displays.When touring the museum, you don’t need to be limited to just a few cultural relics. Instead, by visiting the Capital Museum, you can learn about the 3,000-year history of the ancient city of Beijing, the 800-year history of the capital city, as well as the local customs and living habits of old Beijing.Basic Exhibition The basic exhibition is the core exhibition of the Capital Museum and includes two parts: “Ancient Capital Beijing иC History and Culture” and “Old Beijing Folk Customs”.”Ancient Capital Beijing – History and Culture” is located on the second floor of the museum’s square exhibition hall. Using cultural relics and pictures, it shows the long road Beijing has travelled from a northern border fortress to the capital of a dynasty, and then to the capital of New China.”Old Beijing Folk Customs” is located on the fifth floor of the square exhibition hall. The exhibition uses elements and symbols that are characteristic of Beijing folk customs иC hutongs and siheyuans иC to reflect the theme of the exhibition.By displaying activities such as marriage, childbirth, and festivals in the hutongs, the exhibition shows the living habits and various rituals of the people of old Beijing in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China.Special exhibitions The Capital Museum also has various special exhibitions in different exhibition halls, including: “Exhibition of Ancient Jade Artifacts”, “Exhibition of Yan Bronze Artifacts”, “Exhibition of Ancient Buddhist Pagodas in Beijing”, etc. These exhibitions complement the display of Beijing culture.The locations of the various thematic exhibitions are detailed in the signs in the museum lobby.The Digital Screening Room is located on the first floor of the Round Exhibition Hall. Currently, the high-definition digital film “The Splendor of Beijing” (ten-minute long) is shown every day, which vividly depicts the glory of the ancient capital Beijing in a concise and clear manner.The Capital Museum itself is also very distinctive, with a sunken bamboo courtyard, a quaint Chinese-style archway and other scenic spots inside the building.The museum also has service facilities such as a coffee shop, restaurant, and parcel service.Advance reservations are required to visit the Capital Museum, which is free of charge. Each reservation cannot exceed five tickets per person. Visitors can collect tickets at the north gate of the museum (with a reservation number or a valid ID used when making the reservation).
