Jinfoshan is located in the Nanchuan District of Chongqing.Whenever the weather is fine in the late summer and autumn, the setting sun paints the cliffs in golden splendor, like a magnificent golden Buddha shining with a thousand rays of sunset light. At present, the scenic area is open to the public in two parts: the western slope and the northern slope. Both slopes have cable cars, and you can visit the area by taking the cable car up the western slope and down the northern slope.
To enter the Xipo Scenic Area, you can choose to walk through the 2.5-kilometer Bitan Valley to the lower station of the cable car.You can also take the scenic bus directly to the cable car station. After getting to the top of the mountain, walk slowly along the Golden Turtle Rising to the Sun Trail, passing through the bamboo forest, viewing platforms, etc., and you can stop to look out over the peaks and cliffs. It takes about 1.5 hours to reach the Visitor Center. There are tourist buses at the fork in the road in front of the visitor center that go directly to the north slope, but they only run during peak season. During the off-season, there are minivans operated by locals.
The north slope is characterized by its beautiful and precipitous mountains. After taking the cable car up the mountain, you can also walk along the Yongling Ancient Trail, a remnant of the ancient plank road. There are many natural caves on the northern slopes, the most famous being the Ancient Buddha Cave. The cave contains a huge cave hall, and the statues of Buddha on the walls look very mysterious in the light and shadow. There is a formation of 500 Luohan along one side of the cave hall, and walking along it leads to the exit. The cave opening is surrounded by cliffs on three sides and backed by high mountains. When the weather is clear, this is a great place to view the sea of clouds on Jinfoshan.
In addition, on the other side of the ancient plank road is an ecological stone forest. Compared with other stone forests, this one is full of life and vitality, with stone trees growing symbiotically with each other. The trees and strange rocks complement each other. After the tour, take the cable car back down and leave the scenic area through the north gate.
A visit to Jinfoshan generally takes at least one day. There are places to stay on the western slope, northern slope and summit.
