The Shanghai Museum has more than 120exquisite collections, bringing together historical relics from various dynasties and eras. In particular, the ancient bronze and ceramic wares, calligraphy, and paintings are very distinctive. Among them, the Western Zhou Dake Ding, the Spring and Autumn Zizhong Jiangpan, and the Tang Dynasty “Gao Yitu” and the Eastern Jin Dynasty Wang Xianzhi’s “Yatouwan Tie” are all world-famous national treasure-level collections.In the Ancient Chinese Bronzes Gallery of the Shanghai Museum, the treasure of the museum, the Western Zhou Dake Ding, is treasured, along with other treasures such as the Spring and Autumn Xizun and Zizhong Jiangpan. The Ancient Ceramics Gallery houses superb masterpieces such as the Shang primitive celadon Zun, the Tang Yue Kiln begonia-shaped bowl, groups of Song Ru Kiln plates, and the Yuan Jingdezhen Kiln blue and white lotus jar. In the ancient painting hall, there are Sun Wei’s “High and Free” from the Tang Dynasty, Dong Yuan’s “Summer Mountain Scroll” from the Five Dynasties, and Liang Kai’s “Scrolls of Stories about Eight High Monks” from the Song Dynasty, all of which are rare treasures.There is also a sculpture hall that houses ancient Buddhist sculpture art, a minority crafts hall that displays traditional handicrafts of ethnic minorities, a jade hall that showcases fine jade wares from various dynasties in China, a Ming and Qing furniture hall that reflects the lifestyle of Ming and Qing furniture, and a seal hall and coin hall that rank among the best in the country in terms of collection size.The Shanghai Museum also regularly holds special exhibitions (sometimes ticketed), featuring a variety of domestic and foreign cultural relics, works of art, calligraphy and painting, and other themed exhibitions.
