The Huangpu River is known as the “mother river of Shanghai”. Pudong andPuxi, and it forms the boundary between the two sides, with the world-famous landmarks of the Bund and Lujiazui Financial Center.Seeing the night view of the lights on the Huangpu River is an indispensable stop for tourists visiting Shanghai. You can also take a cruise to enjoy the scenery on both sides of the river.
The Huangpu River, which is about 113 kilometers long and 300 to 700 meters wide, flows through various districts of Shanghai. It is a symbol of the city and a collection of the essence of Shanghai’s urban landscape.The Bund and the Riverside Avenue along the Huangpu River are both excellent viewing spots. The Riverside Avenue is relatively less crowded than the Bund.Strolling along the river, you can see the exotic architecture of the Bund on the west bank, which contrasts with the modern skyscrapers on the east bank, rising up into the sky. The night view of the Huangpu River is also a must-see.At night, the banks of the Huangpu River are lit up. You can start from the Shiliupu Pier on Zhongshan Dong Er Road in Huangpu District and take a river cruise on the Huangpu River, enjoying the unobstructed views along the way.The Yangpu and Nanpu bridges crossing the Huangpu River, the classic Waibaidu Bridge resembling a jade belt, the beautiful environment of the Pudong Binjiang Avenue, and the unique Shanghai International Convention Center, all create a beautiful landscape under the brilliant lights, dazzling the eye.The boat offers Chinese, Western and buffet-style meals, so you can enjoy the beautiful views of the Huangpu River while you eat.The cruise ship sails from 11:00 to 21:30 every day, with one cruise every hour from 11:00 to 13:00 and one cruise every half hour from 13:00 to 21:30. If you don’t want to spend too much time on the cruise, the ferry between Pudong and Puxi is also a cost-effective way to experience the charm of the Huangpu River, with a more nostalgic atmosphere.Ferries run between the Jinling East Road pier next to the Bund and the Dongchang Road pier in Pudong, from 7:00 to 22:00. The journey takes about ten minutes each way and ferries depart every 15 minutes.There is also a ferry that runs between Fuxing East Road Ferry Terminal and Dongchang Road Ferry Terminal. The Fuxing East Road Ferry Terminal operates from 7:00 to 19:00, and the Dongchang Road Ferry Terminal operates from 7:00 to 18:45, with ferries leaving every half hour.
